More Pinewood Derby News (Update)

Update: Please see the new date for the derby!

Hi everyone,
The holidays are over and now it’s time for the real excitement of winter: Pack 415’s Pinewood Derby. Here are the pertinent details.

Tuesday, January 19th, 7-8pm will be the official weigh in at Boyd E. Smith Elementary. This is an opportunity to check the boys’ cars and do some final tuning before the event on Saturday. There is no need to attend for the entire evening, but please stop in and weigh the car if at all possible, as it will make Saturday morning run more smoothly.

Saturday, January 30th, 8am-12pm is the Pinewood Derby at the Milford First United Methodist Church. The first hour will be inspection for the cars and the races will begin promptly at 9am. Cars must be inspected by 9am to complete, so be on time!

We are looking for any adult volunteers able to help set up Friday, January 22nd at 8pm at Milford First United Methodist Church. We will also need a few volunteers the morning of the race to help coordinate. Please let Chris Hayslett (chayslett84@gmail.com) know if you are able to help out.

Below are some links to helpful resources for building the cars:

September Pack Hike

1st Monthly Pack 415 Hike Information

When: Sunday, September 27 3:00-5:00pm
Where: Stonelick State Park ; Lakeview Trail Parking Lot
What: An easy to moderate 3’ish mile hike

Hike Description: Enter Stonelick State Park from OH 727 and proceed to the Lakeview Trail parking lot. Take Lakeview Trail  to where it merges with Southwoods Trail. Turn left onto Southwoods Trail. Enjoy the views of the red cedars and keep an eye out for the tracks of raccoons and deer, which frequently water at the small stream. After crossing over two footbridges, the trail becomes unmarked for a small portion, so be mindful not to wander onto a deer trail. Cross the metal bridge and enjoy a newer growth forest of white and red oaks and sugar maples. After crossing another footbridge (and having the Stonelick Campground visible ) take the Red Fox Trail split to the left. Follow Red Fox through more red cedars to a wetland, where you may glimpse herons, hear some frogs or see other water creatures. Remain on Red Fox Trail (following the red blazes) as it loops back around through shagbark hickory, beech and white oaks to Southwards Trail. At the intersection, bear left onto Southwards Trail. Continue on Southwards to the intersection with Lakeview Trail. Turn right onto Lakeview to return to your car.

Feel free to come later or leave earlier, pack a picnic or extend the hike beyond what is listed above.

If you have any questions, please contact Joe Dumont.
